A look into the future
STS2030
lavie and Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030
lavie has committed to the sustainability goals of Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030. With our commitment, we can confirm that we will take measures to ensure that the STS goals are achieved by 2030. The four targets we will achieve by 2030 are:
1. Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
2. Promotion of fair wages and humane working conditions for all
3. Promotion of innovative business models toward a circular economy
4. Transparency to ensure that sustainable purchasing decisions can be made
These four targets were formulated based on the UN’s SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and reference the goals 8, 12, 13 and 15 in particular. The entire programme is also underpinned by goal 17.
Target 1: Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
In pursuit of Target 1 (based on the SDGs 13 and 15), we teamed up with myclimate in 2023 to monitor our own emissions (Scope 1 and 2) as well as those in our supply chain (Scope 3). The infographic from myclimate shows the areas covered by Scope 1, 2 and 3.
Based on the results of the survey, we are now working on measures to reduce our emissions. There is a particular focus on Scope 3, as this is where our greatest potential for improvement lies and also poses the greatest challenges for us. We want to finalise and publish our strategy together with myclimate at the end of 2024.
Target 2: Promotion of fair wages and humane working conditions for all
Individual aspects of Goal 2 (based on SDG 8 and 17) are included in our existing certifications and quality seals, specifically in GOTS and bioRe® Sustainable Cotton. Nevertheless, we still have lots of potential for improvement.
The updated criteria of the Global Organic Textile Standard – GOTS for short – came into force with version 7.0 in March 2024. With our GOTS-certified products, we also fulfil the criteria of the second STS2030 goal and are therefore on the right track to achieve the targets.
The Swiss bioRe® quality label ensures socio-economic stability for cotton farmers (apart from organic cultivation and GMO-free seeds). The Remei group, the originator of the bioRe® label, buys the cotton directly from farmers or farmers’ cooperatives and pays an additional premium above the official selling price. Remei commits to an annual purchase guarantee so that the cotton producers can plan with this income.
Since summer 2023, our newly developed cotton products have carried the bioRe® seal of approval wherever possible. The existing cotton products from previous collections will also be successively changed over to bioRe®.
Target 3: Promotion of innovative business models toward a circular economy
We have taken various measures to achieve Goal 3 (based on SDG 12 17). We have been part of the Circular Clothing cooperative, which is committed to circular textile products, from the very beginning.
At the end of 2023 we set a milestone with our made to last collection, launching our first circular products. What’s more, the decorative cushions and chef’s aprons have also been awarded theCradle To Cradle Certified® Gold certification.
In collaboration with other players in the textile and recycling industry, we are looking for circular solutions for textiles. Closing the loop effectively can mean, among other things, producing new fibres from old textiles through recycling and upcycling, and since summer 2023, our newly developed cotton products have carried the bioRe® seal of approval wherever possible. The existing cotton products from previous collections will also be gradually changed over to bioRe®.
Target 4: Transparency to ensure that sustainable purchasing decisions can be made
By 2030, 90% of the Swiss textile and clothing industry will disclose information on social and environmental sustainability and help raise awareness among consumers and bulk purchasers.
lavie is working together with retraced to achieve this target. Retraced is a blockchain-based software designed to help us break down and analyse our supply chains. By gradually compiling our collection on retraced, we are making it possible for our customers to follow every product back to its origins.
