Do you know the difference between flax and linen? No? Perhaps that’s because there isn’t one – it’s really just a question of definition. While the word ‘flax’ refers to the plant and the fibre, ‘linen’ usually refers to the finished textiles such as clothing and bed linen – or dog leashes, leashes for leashes, so to speak.

Fact: The flax fibres for our products are grown in Western Europe, more precisely in France, Belgium and the Netherlands – countries that account for 80% of global flax fibre production. We have little control over what goes on in the fields and what happens en route. However, we can rely on the Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ certification: it ensures the origin and controlled cultivation and guarantees that all processing companies in the entire supply chain are certified. The label is supported by the entire European fibre industry: A joint agreement, signed by all fibre manufacturers, serves as the basis for the label.

And what exactly is being looked at? Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ guarantees that the fibres are natural, sustainably grown and do not require artificial irrigation – unless circumstances such as extreme dryness make this absolutely necessary. It is also a prerequisite that the fibres are grown without genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and that pesticides and fertilisers are used only minimally.

In addition, the entire plant is always used, so there is no waste. Social responsibility also plays a role, of course, and working conditions are based on the rules of the International Labour Organisation.

What is good for people and the environment is also in line with consumer standpoint: 61% of consumers are prepared to pay more for linen with a certified European origin. A nice development, we think. And what do you think of our linen collection? We are curious.
